(a sappy xmas story)
-----------------------
E tu, e tu amore,
Vedrai che presto tornerai
Dove adesso non ci sei
-----------------------
Midnight drowns in with a muted chimed of his digital watch. He looks at his wrist with an absent-minded glance, then returns his eyes to the serene view outside his window.
Snow's falling gently outside, the whiteness covering almost everything in sight, and he imagines he can hear the clinking of glasses as people celebrate the christmas with their loved ones. They paint a pretty picture in his mind, even though all he sees from his own apartment is the flickering of fairy lights from his own tree reflected on the glass.
He turns to look at it, the number of presents under all the decoration making a lump form in his throat, as he, unavoidably, counts them again.
One. Two. Three. Four. Five.
A sudden sigh shakes his entire frame as he worries his lower lip between sharp teeth. Reaching a sudden decision, he grips the cellphone tighter in his hand, and with a quick, precise movement of long fingers, he dials the same number once more.
-----------------------
Warily checking the hour again as yet another cheerful christmas song plays on his earphone, he mutters a curse under his breath. There's no traffic on air, but the holidays make everything slower than it should be, and there's two more hours until he arrives at the airport.
The cellphone is his hand is useless for communication, and the battery is almost dead anyway, from too many songs on repeat, as he uses it as a mp3 player.
He lets out a loud huff of annoyance, managing to disturb the passenger next to him, and the older woman shoots him a glare before re-arranging herself on the plane's seat and going back to sleep.
Yunho makes a face, and in his mind sends a quick prayer to any deity that might be listening. He just wants to get home safe. And as soon as possible.
-----------------------
The click of an opening door arouses Yoochun from his peaceful sleep, and he turns around on the bed, blinking from the sudden light against his eyes. He quickly looks to the side, checking the hour - almost 3am - and confirmes that junsu is still asleep, as a hushed whisper falls to his ears.
"Yoochun-hyung." It's changmin, of course. "Yoochung-hyung. Are you awake?"
His voice heavy with sleep he mutters "Changmin..." and lets his head once again fall to the pillow. In his mind, he counts the hours since he fell asleep, unhappy to be disturbed in one of their only days of rest. With tired eyes, he turns his head to the side, finding the taller boy crouched next to his bed. The worried expression on his face makes Yoochun frown. "Something wrong, Min-ah?"
Changmin's hands grip the mattress and he tries to keep his balance and he makes a face before answering, probably just as unhappy to be in the position he is. "Jaejoong-hyung is asleep on the couch."
Immediately awake, Yoochun sits up, the duvet covering his frame slipping down with a sudden swoosh sound, and the shock makes Changmin loose his precarious grip and fall sited to the ground. The commotion wakes Junsu up, who only blinks owlish for a moment, taking in Yoochun's sheepish face and Changmin's disgruntled one, before letting a small amused sound. "Just what is going on here?"
-----------------------
Just as he expected, entering the house with fifteen minutes to four - he quickly checks his watch and winces - the whole house is quiet and the only source of light is dim and comes from the twinkling Christmas tree. He stops at the doorway, taking in the decoration and a heavy disappointed feeling settles in his stomach. With slow steps he continues on his way inside, closing the door behind him with a muted sound.
Was there any point in hurrying home, anyway? After that horrible taxi ride (after even finding one on December the 25th) he desperately wishes he could say yes, but - he shakes his head - there's no one waiting for him.
Just as he's about to go change direction and head for his bedroom, there's a click and the lights come on, startling him. He quickly turns around, a hopeful expression forming on his face as he looks towards the couch, only to find three sleepy - and not too well humored, he can see - donsaeng-deul.
His face falls, a grimace surging there instead. The three continue to look at him with steady gazes, until an yawn overtakes Junsu and the boy raises a hand to cover his mouth. As if a spell is broken, Yoochun gives a deep sigh, letting his head fall onto Changmin's shoulder. "Just go find Jaejoong, Yunho-hyung."
Helpfully, Changmin adds, "we took him to his bedroom since he seemed cold." and seeing the chagrined expression on Yunho's face gives a little shrug, then returning his attention to the other two on the couch, who seem to have entangled themselves trying to find a position in which to best rest.
Yunho looks at them for a moment more, observing how they interact and finding some humor in the fact that in the end Junsu's the one that manages to make both Changmin and Yoochun his pillow, then takes off to Jaejoong's bedroom. A pensive from settles on his face as he imagines the older boy waiting for him until too exhausted, then falling asleep on the couch and having to be taken care of by the other three.
He bites his lips. As selfish as it is, he's somewhat glad that things happened like that.
-----------------------
Jaejoong sleeps atop a made bed, and Yunho snorts a bit realizing for all the other boys' good intentions, they couldn't in the end figure out how to tuck the older boy in without waking him. Carefully, he sits on the top of the bed, taking in on Jaejoong's peaceful features. Illuminated only by the outside light, his face shines in smooth paleness and Yunho smiles. Purposely leaving the curtains open seems like the type of meddling the others would do too.
Gently, he caresses jaejoong's cheek, and within only a couple of seconds he awakes. When he sees Yunho there he lets a startled gasp, then sits up quickly, unable to believe the other is there. Dazed, Jaejoong's checks his surrounding, confused as to where he is.
With a little chuckle, Yunho captures him in an embrace. "Your own bedroom, jaejoong-ah. That's where you are." He rests his chin atop the older boy's head, and so intent on feeling the cool strands underneath his skin, he almost misses Jaejoong's whispered "you're home."
Yunho winces a little, then sighs happily when Jaejoong returns the hug, circling Yunho's waist with his arms. For a few moments they stay like that, content in finally being together again, until Jaejoong shakes off the embrace and with a guarded expression looks at Yunho. "Why didn't you answer my calls?"
In that exact moment, Yunho's cellphone beeps five times consecutively, and with a raised eyebrow he checks it. Five missed calls and a dozen unanswered messages. Amused, Yunho reads them all, even as he sees Jaejoong's increasing red face. After doing so, he bites his lips in an effort not to laugh. "Airplane, Jaejoong-ah. Traveling by plane, remember?"
Jaejoong's expression quickly turns sheepish, and before it can become complete embarrassment, Yunho brings him close again, purposely capturing the boy's lips with his own. The kiss is tender and loving, and expresses well how much he missed Jaejoong during the time he was away.
Parting, a happy smile brightens Yunho's face - an expression matched by Jaejoong's shinning eyes. "Merry Christmas, Jaejoong-ah."
-----------------------
The morning finds the oldest duo stumbling from the bedroom with silly grins on their faces - a sure sign that a private christmas celebration already happened. They walk hand in hand, and when they see the other three by the christmas tree opening their presents, they too hurry to open their gifts.
Child like in their enthusiasm, that's when they are sure that today is indeed a happy Christmas.

/the end.
